This mural is a large comic book style illustration inside Violet Wild Cannabis Co located in Chemainus on Vancouver Island, BC. The mural shows Chemainus in full colour within a cloud of smoke while the area outside the smoke is in black and white.
As a Victoria mural artist I love painting my vision of other art, especially a mural of a mural. Here I hand painted the "Gateway to Old Chemainus" sign and gate built of logs in front of the Waterwheel Park and the mural "First Chemainus Sawmill 1862" by Sylvia Verity.
The background of this mural shows St Michael & All Angels Anglican Church and the Chemainus Theatre Festival receding down the street into the background. While these iconic buildings aren't located as shown my job as a Vancouver Island mural artist is to pull together well known establishments from a local town into an effective streetscape.
Whenever I want a coffee in Chemainus I always stop by the Willow Street Cafe, so naturally I selected this great cafe as the centre of focus in a mural about Chemainus. The cafe patio was the most complex and detailed part of the mural; nearby a man walks away from Willow street further into the mural.
The left foreground of the mural is occupied by a hand holding a joint that creates the cloud of colour. While I don't have much use for marijuana I found this concept visually striking and I know a couple folks with chronic pain who have found relief with CBD.
I am available for freelance. Can't wait for the next exciting project! Could be yours?
