Aspen is an underwater portrait painting of my friend sleeping, and a dreamscape of an underwater scene with a sperm whale spilling down into her subconscious. The figure and whale are painted weightlessly flowing into their environments, as life underwater moves smoother.
Blue and orange paint drip past this woman's dreams, with an aspen branch turning into a blanket. While the woman's face and blanket are detailed, her hair and hand are only suggested with loose brush strokes. Thick lines of silicone were used to show the aspen branch and figure outlines.
A sperm whale dives into the subconscious of the sleeping woman in this dreaming underwater landscape painting, or dream-scape. The largest brain on earth, six times larger than a human brain, belongs to the sperm whale; one third of their body mass is dedicated to sonar, for their big brains to process echolocation.
I painted jewel squid, who have one much larger eye larger looking down into the depths and the smaller eye at the surface, descending into this underwater artwork. The foreground squid swims to the bioluminescent white tentacles of a silky medusa jelly, which will detach and provide the jellyfish with an escape.
I am available for freelance. Can't wait for the next exciting project! Could be yours?
