My gray shade storyboards set up the premise for this TV commercial: how can two friends have a drink together during the Covid 19 pandemic lockdown? The answer is… virtual cocktails! After a woman unpacks a bar in a box just delivered to her apartment cocktail party host Paul Feig beams in with his elegant trolley.

The interior scene of an apartment in this storyboard art becomes an impromptu cocktail party with a variety of filmmaking shots used in the storyboard panels, from a long shot to a close up. As a Canadian storyboard artist I’m always happy to draw Canadian actors in scenes and it was fun to sketch Sandrah Oh.

It’s time for the surprise cocktail party to end. Paul Feig and his drink cart beam out of Sandrah Oh’s apartment to reveal Paul is on a television against a wall. While drawing storyboards on a Wacom Cintiq monitor in photoshop looks almost the same as drawing storyboards on paper, photoshop allows for effects like blurring a background slightly and Paul’s “beam me up” effect.
