Seascape Paintings at Night

Night under the sea can be an otherworldly time when sea creatures change from the day shift to night shift, bringing an amazing array of ocean wildlife. Where humans don’t see well in the dark, it can be easy to mistakenly think the ocean is asleep when in fact a study in the inky shadow and reflection would show nocturnal life abounds.

To create moody atmospheric night seascape paintings, I first consider what the light source is: moonlight, starlight, both, or even city lights. I then consider the depth of the ocean painting, and what wildlife to consider. Finally I give inspiration to my own experiences diving and snorkelling at night and how I felt: introspective, meditative, contemplative, romantic or even melancholic.
