Salmon Paintings

Salmon are the lifeblood of several coasts, including my own in British Columbia. There are seven species of Pacific salmon and five can be found in BC: their spawning season is one of the great events in nature. So many fish finish their lives inland after spawning that over millions of years they have fertilized the lush coastal forests, which depend on the salmon for nutrients. Likewise salmon depend on forests for their watersheds, which serve as protective nurseries for hatchlings.

These paintings bring viewers into a shared experience with salmon in their world and give the viewpoint of these important fish.
