The sun shining through an underwater kelp forest is one of the most beautiful environments I’ve ever been in. This panoramic painting is inspired by my snorkelling experiences checking out the cool kelp beds around Vancouver Island, this one in a strong ocean current.

I painted volumetric acrylic sun rays shining through sea water illuminating a towering strand of kelp like an underwater tree with a halo of sunshine. Long, ribbon-like blades twist and fly with the rhythmic pull of unseen currents, which kelp love for the flow of nutrients and I sought to share in an original artwork on canvas.
