After much thought I re-finished this abstract sunset painting to feature a field road to Mount Arrowsmith, near Parksville and Port Alberni on Vancouver Island, BC. This painting started as a wild abstract with acrylic blue paint thrown and splashed mixed with pools of green and drips of yellow, orange and magenta.
A young green fir tree and lush meadow emerge in semi realistic brush strokes from purple, green and blue abstract splashes of paint. I love painting transparent windows of representational art in layers with abstract brushwork expression.
Pools of acrylic green paint drip down canvas to form the forest foothills of Mount Arrowsmith, BC. I was happy with the ratio of how much the action abstract part of this painting was left complete, compared to the lesser amount of realism and detail added to the BC mountain landscape.
Mount Arrowsmith is infused with blues and purples as it is illuminated with a vibrant sunset made of colourful yellow, orange and magenta. As a Victoria landscape artist I love creating Vancouver Island scenery paintings.
My good friend Aspen bought this original mountain landscape painting and asked if I could add her two dogs in the background. Nikita, a yellow lab and Oreo, a mixed black lab, are walking off into the sunset like so many trails they smelled and explored on Vancouver Island. Both have now passed on into that sunset.
I am available for freelance. Can't wait for the next exciting project! Could be yours?
